Over 70 Ndebele women from poor economic circumstances earn an income from this project. They live in remote areas where there are few job opportunities.
The Ndebele people have a patriarchal social structure meaning that women have a limited status within the community. By producing this beadwork, the women are able to continue to live a traditional lifestyle whilst earning an independent income.
